In recent years the DVSA has moved away from physical visits to carrying out remote checks online; this puts a bigger responsibility on the AE or the SM to ensure that QC, Audits and other self checks are carried out regularly and correctly.

The penalties for not meeting DVSA requirements vary from disciplinary points, temporary cessation or full cessation for up to 5 years.

In order to manage the risk of not meeting DVSA requirements, DVSA have introduced the Authorised Examiner Consultant (AEC) role.
